Katzner's dictionary is laid out well, offers phrases using many of the entries and is just indispensable for someone wanting to learn russian. This book is a collaboration between a journalist and a photojournalist that provides a unique look at Russia and its people. In fact, a russian friend of ours said my russian was "unexpectedly rich" and thought maybe we had russian literature lying around the house. I'm sorry for Katzner, However, the language used in these records is not Russian as it is in the present day but Old Slavonic, the precursor to Russian.

As a registered bab. The gold standard. I use it so much that the spine started to fall apart We are DMCA-compliant and gladly to work with you. I have many Russian dictionaries in my library.

This has the worst and all my notes are now lost for all practical purposes as I must change to a new intact dictionary. On the con side: it is 'only' about pages, so it doesn't have every word in it karma, sautebut you can try Google Translate for those not that Google Translate is so great. No part of this excerpt may be reproduced or reprinted without permission in writing from the publisher. Cureton on Feb 19, This is must for every American who is learning or will learn Russian reading, writing or speaking.

English-Russian, Russian-English book

The first one was given to me, and I enjoyed it so much that I ordered this one for a friend. You can enjoy the brief descriptions in Russian or refer to the English versions.

I wish I thought of using a bible cover earlier. With bilingual books, you have the translations handy, so you can approach reading practice without any nervousness. Not recommended. This type of binding is acceptable on a short cheap paperback novel that you'll read one time, but on a thousand-page dictionary that you want to consult for years?!

But as you learn more, you can enjoy the Russian text alone without referring to the English version. You can learn more about the dictionary at the wordfind site and even see a sample page there.

Let's stay in touch. Russian literature flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries. I don't recommend Oxford for the type of translation I do but the Katzner hardcover is apparently out of print.

In addition, for nouns ending in the soft sign, the English to Russian section does not give whether that noun is masculine or feminine. Non-Russian speakers, like myself, can even use the English section to look up Russian words. Nicely formatted. This makes bilingual books surprisingly versatile.

Special attention has been devoted to synonyms. Content 5, Binding 0 By Paul F Miller on Dec 27, I have no argument with the content of this dictionary; it serves most of my needs. I foresaw this possibility and sewed mine before subjecting it to use. It served me very well in my service as a Marine linguist, and since.

English Russian Dictionary

A must for every American! For Russian the new official Orthography has been used.

Online dictionary: Russian

This book is a collaboration between a journalist and a photojournalist that provides a unique look at Russia and its people. In my opinion, reference books should be durable, as they are meant to be used regularly, and this dictionary just didn't hold up. As a former Russian teacher in the United States, I found this book a "God-send" for some of the things that my students in the United States wanted me to teach them.

If you are studying Russian, you need this dictionary A Customer on Feb 03, The Katzner dictionary is most helpful for students who want to know the difference between different Russian words which correspond to one English word. This dictionary was wonderful not only for me as a Russian and English literate teacher, but also for my students who often times couldn't find words exclusive to American English in their dictionaries.

Now you can open the book without fear of cracking the glued binding. However, the language used in these records is not Russian as it is in the present day but Old Slavonic, the precursor to Russian. Latest Posts:.
